On the Preparation, Separation, and Measurement of Entangled Twin Objects

§0 · Abstract

Every work in this system is prepared as a pair of identical objects and then separated: one is kept where it can be observed, one is released where it cannot. From the moment of separation until the moment of measurement, the released twin exists — for every party to the experiment, including the experimenter — in an unresolved superposition of fates. A measurement, if one ever occurs, collapses both twins at once, at any distance.1

Nothing in this document is a metaphor.2 Each claim describes the actual mechanics of the work and may be audited against the public register.3 The document reads as it does because the system behaves as it does.

§1 · The Protocol (every pair passes through these states)

PREPARATIONt₀ Two identical objects are fabricated from one origin — one mold, one pattern, one printing. Identically prepared states, indistinguishable at creation. The pair is assigned its designation and entered into the register.
SEPARATIONt₁ A collector's purchase triggers the split. One twin (designation ‑C) enters a vitrine, observed and documented. Its sibling (‑W) is released where discarded things go. Spatial distance between twins is irrelevant from this point onward.
SUPERPOSITIONt₁ → t₂ The wild twin's condition is unknown and unknowable: |found⟩ + |unfound⟩ — equally, until evidence. Kept, destroyed, shelved, spent, warming someone, lost. No party can resolve the state, including the maker. This interval may last decades. It may last forever. Most pairs never leave it.
MEASUREMENTt₂, if ever An observer's hand closes around the object and recognizes it. A jeweler's scale, a broken seal, a googled mark. The event is recorded in the register as SURFACED — the system's measurement operator.
COLLAPSEt₂ + ε Both ends resolve simultaneously. The wild twin's fate becomes fact; the kept twin — untouched in its vitrine — changes meaning, story, and value in the same instant, at any distance. Action at a distance on the level of meaning.4
THE CLASSICAL CHANNELalways required Strict entanglement transmits no information without an ordinary channel for comparing notes.5 This system's channel is built and public: the mark on the object, the register, the certificate, the news. A surfacing means nothing until the mark is matched to the record — and then every mark on every object conducts.
THE THIRD BODYentangled Every separation involves a third party. One third of each price is given away at once — to those who serve the places where released twins go. Its state is |gift⟩ + |apology⟩, entangled with the released twin's fate: found in joy, no apology was ever needed; found in harm, the apology preceded the wound. Most apologies remain in superposition forever. It is there in case of the eventuality that it was necessary.

The standing report format, regenerated from the register as events are appended.3 Values are withheld pending the first preparation.6

1. Distance between twins at collapse is unbounded. No configuration is excluded.

2. The prose register of this document is deliberately that of the laboratory; its contents are deliberately not fiction. Where physics required a licence, none was taken; where the work exceeded the physics, the work was quoted exactly.

3. The register is append-only; its public face must always satisfy LEAKED = DONATED — the wildness and the apology must balance, in absolute dollars, per pair, without exception. One third of every price is embodied in the released twin; one third is given — and held in apology, should one prove necessary.

4. The kept twin's collapse is real but non-physical: story, meaning, and market value move; the object does not. No conservation law is violated. Several are enforced (see note 3).

5. This is the no-communication theorem, honored precisely: the entanglement carries no signal; the news does. The marks on the objects are dormant conductors — inert until the first surfacing story indexes them, retroactively connecting every object to this record.

6. All values in §2 are withheld pending the first preparation. This footnote will be deleted the day it becomes false.

7. One preparation also offers a measurement the observer may perform on themselves. It is not identified here.

The first objects enter the world soon.
Some of them will not be announced.
